LESSON 1:
We will focus on one of the factors that mostly create difficulties in learning salsa music: the lack of knowledge of musical instruments of Latin American tradition and their sounds.
Audio/video examples are included, with musicians playing some musical instruments.
LESSON 2:
We will define some musical concepts such as musical phrase, pattern, beat, measure, clave, etc. that will allow you to start with a basic order in your learning,
By learning these definitions correctly, you will better, and more easily, understand how salsa music is structured.
LESSON 3:
I propose a system of graphical representation of the sounds we hear in music, in this way you will have a graphic support that will allow you to easily visualize and understand what each instrument plays, like as a musical score, though less challenging, much easier in understanding.
LESSON 4:
We will learn the instrumental composition of a salsa orchestra. We divide these instruments into groups, called SECTIONS.
To make it easier for you to study, for each section of a salsa orchestra, I have recorded audio and video examples of the musicians as they play their instrument.
LESSON 5:
FINALLY we will get to the heart of this course: here I will teach you what each single instrument plays in the rhythm section, in MARCHA section two three.
I have recorded each instrument separately for you, so you can hear and see how each instrument sounds in reference to the tempo in the MARCHA 2:3 SECTION of a salsa song.
LESSON 6:
We will see what each instrument in the rhythm section plays in MONTUNO two three.
Again, I have recorded each instrument separately for you, so you can hear and see how each instrument sounds in reference to the tempo in the MONTUNO 2:3 SECTION of a salsa song.
